Bios

John Thayer is the Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, responsible for driving market leadership and sales strategies for the Polyethylene and Ethylene businesses for NOVA Chemicals. He also is responsible for leading NOVA Chemicals’ long-term Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, working with value chain partners, customers, government officials, industry associations and others to find innovative solutions to advance a plastics circular economy and climate care. He oversees NOVA Chemicals’ new partnerships and development agreements in mechanical and advanced recycling to support the company’s rapidly growing portfolio of post-consumer recycled (PCR) resins.

Thayer joined NOVA Chemicals in 1997 and since then has served the company in multiple roles, including positions in Human Resources, Operations and Site Leadership, Global Business Director, and General Manager, most recently serving as Senior Vice President, of, Polyethylene (PE) Business at NOVA Chemicals’ U.S. Commercial Center. His 30 years of experience in manufacturing and the plastics industry have helped him become an expert in strategy development, sustainability, organizational capability, commercial leadership, and change management. Prior to joining NOVA Chemicals, Thayer held roles in Human Resources and Labor Relations at Weyerhaeuser Company.  He has also been involved with several industry associations where he has been an advocate for the value of plastics and circularity.

Thayer earned a Master of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations from West Virginia University. He serves as the Immediate Past Chairman of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) Plastics Division and member of the Executive Leadership Team. He is the previous treasurer and board member of the Expandable Polystyrene Industry Alliance (EPIA), and Chairman of Beaver County Chamber of Commerce.

Todd Becker is Vice President of Sales for NOVA Chemicals’ Polyethylene business. In his role, Todd is responsible for leading global sales of polyethylene with accountability for sales strategy and execution. Becker joined NOVA Chemicals in 2007 in the company’s Styrenics business where he held a variety of leadership positions, and also served in marketing, leading the polyethylene performance films group, before moving into his current role.  Prior to joining NOVA Chemicals, Becker spent nearly 20 years with DuPont Packaging and Industrial Polymers in leadership positions of increasing responsibility in operations, product management, supply chain, new ventures, sales and marketing.

Becker holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University. Currently, he serves the board of the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) and is active in community leadership having held several nonprofit board positions.


Greg DeKunder is Vice President of Marketing for NOVA Chemicals polyethylene business. In his role, Greg is responsible for accelerating customers’ success through a dedicated focus on their needs and ambitions. He helps the team leverage business opportunities that guide the company’s strategic growth into new markets and expand existing target markets. Greg leads NOVA Chemicals’ circular economy strategy, including the company’s entry into the recycling business which helps customers gain easy access to valuable, in-demand recycled material and subject matter expertise. Before joining NOVA Chemicals in 2018, Greg spent more than 25 years at Total S.A., most recently heading Base Chemicals, Americas within their refining and chemicals business. 

Greg holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas, and an MBA from the University of Houston. Currently, Greg sits on the PLASTICS Material Suppliers Council and is the NOVA Chemicals’ Limited Partner Advisory Committee member for the closed Loop Circular Plastics Fund.
