As global citizens, we all share a role in shaping a world that is better tomorrow than it is today.
At NOVA Chemicals, we strive to be a leader in innovation that enables our customers to deliver plastic products that make everyday life healthier and safer. We believe businesses like ours can be a positive catalyst for change to address post-use challenges and concerns.

Strategic Focus Areas
To shape a world that is better tomorrow than it is today, our long-term vision for Sustainability includes six Strategic Focus Areas.
Plastics Circular Economy
We recognize the value in post-use plastics and work to extend the lifecycle of plastics products and packaging. Along with our industry associations and others, we are committed to enabling 100 percent of plastics packaging is recyclable or recoverable by 2030; and 100 percent of plastics packaging is re-used, recycled or recovered by 2040. We are actively working with our customers to help them design and develop products and packaging to promote a plastics circular economy, utilize recyclable film structures and post-consumer resin (PCR) materials, and maximize source reduction. Working together with others, we strive to create a world free of plastic pollution.
NOVA Chemicals is committed to responsibly managing our environmental emissions with a particular emphasis on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as well as promoting and maintaining sustainability throughout our operational facilities. We have taken steps to reduce our GHG emissions, achieving a 10 percent decline in intensity between 2014 and 2018. We have voluntarily reported our performance since 1994.
On Clean Air Day, we were a proud recipient of the 2018 Blue Skies Award. Through incorporation of next-generation burner technology and higher efficiency systems, a 30-40 percent reduction in emissions of NOx was realized from each of our refurbished furnaces at our Joffre, Alberta manufacturing facility.
As a responsible global citizen, NOVA Chemicals will collaborate, provide leadership, and invest in opportunities that promote natural resource conservation and ocean health. We agree that plastic waste does not belong in the environment. NOVA Chemicals is a founding member of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste and a strategic partner of Project STOP (Stop Ocean Plastics). Our employee volunteers have been participating in the Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up for more than a decade. We believe this is a solvable issue and that companies, governments, NGOs, and consumers all have an important role to play helping to end plastic waste in the environment. Locally, NOVA Chemicals will continue its long tradition of supporting the communities where we have operating facilities.
Sustainability in Operations
We are committed to promoting and maintaining sustainability in our operations. We will proactively and responsibly manage the water, land and air involved for our operations facilities.
We are actively pursuing collaboration partners to develop a portfolio of new and emerging sustainability technologies and innovations to more quickly and effectively achieve our sustainability goals.
Sustainability Design and Integration
We will embed sustainability throughout our entire organization, including leadership, organizational design, decision making, actions, strategy, systems and processes.
