NOVA Chemicals donates US$20,000 to Kids Kitchen Cupboard to nourish families in Connersville

Calgary, AB (September 7, 2023) – NOVA Chemicals Corporation (“NOVA Chemicals”) has announced a US$20,000 contribution to the Fayette County School Corporation’s (“FCSC”) Kids Kitchen Cupboard, a food pantry service in Connersville, Ind. that services FCSC students and their families. The donation will help relieve hunger and nourish the community by providing consistent access to perishable items vital to a healthy diet such as bread, produce, meat, and dairy products.

“We firmly believe in contributing to the success of the communities in which we operate and we were pleased to have the opportunity to give back to our new neighbors in Indiana,” said NOVA Chemicals’ Vice President of Circular Solutions, Greg DeKunder. “Collaborating with our communities and investing in projects that address their specific needs and concerns means we can make a real difference and improve the overall quality of life for those who need it most.”

In July, NOVA Chemicals announced that as part of a significant investment to drive the transition to the plastics circular economy and solidify the market for recycled polyethylene (rPE), it would build its first mechanical recycling facility in Connersville. The facility, which will create approximately 125 full-time jobs in the community, will process post-consumer plastic films to produce the company’s SYNDIGO™ rPE at commercial scale by as early as 2025.

Added DeKunder, “when we announced our first mechanical recycling facility, we made a commitment to Connersville that we would be good neighbors, and that we would play an active role in building a sustainable and thriving community. We look forward to building on this contribution to Kids Kitchen Cupboard as we strive to be a responsible and trusted community neighbor for years to come.”

“We are thrilled to have NOVA Chemicals join our community in Fayette County and greatly appreciate their generous donation to help feed our students outside of the school day with food items that they have typically not been able to receive from our pantry,” said Scott Collins, Superintendent of the Fayette County School Corporation. “With this donation, we can provide full, nutritious meals to the families of students in Fayette County.”
