NOVA Chemicals Commercializes SURPASS® FPs116-CX Resin

Calgary, Alberta, Canada (October 5, 2016) – NOVA Chemicals Corporation (“NOVA Chemicals”) today announced the commercialization of SURPASS® FPs116-CX polyethylene resin (“FPs116-CX”), an evolution of the successful SURPASS HPs900-C resin. The resin, made with NOVA Chemicals’ own Advanced SCLAIRTECH™ technology, delivers an exceptional combination of properties that result in a substantial performance upgrade: excellent seal characteristics; high toughness, with improvements in dart impact and puncture properties; and best-in-class optics. FPs116-CX also has excellent melt strength and superior bubble stability on blown film lines, enabling higher throughput and productivity.

“This next-generation linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) octene resin was created in response to our customers’ needs,” said Mark Kay, performance films group manager, NOVA Chemicals Polyethylene. “In addition to exceptional physical properties, FPs116-CX is designed to take advantage of today’s high-output extrusion lines. It delivers output improvements of 18 percent or more compared to other products in the marketplace, which translates to significant savings per pound of film produced.”

FPs116-CX is ideal for a variety of food and consumer packaging applications, particularly those that require superior integrity throughout the packaging distribution chain and excellent optics for shelf appeal. This includes meat and cheese packaging, such as thermoformed films, bags, vertical pouches and stand-up pouches; printed collation shrink packaging; and food service liquid packaging and snack foods, such as stand-up and retail-display pouches. It demonstrates particular toughness for bone-in meat products.

The introduction of FPs116-CX is an example of NOVA Chemicals’ customer-centric research and development work at the Centre for Applied Research and Centre for Performance Applications in Calgary. For more information, visit NOVA Chemicals on the internet at www.novachemicals.com.
