Business at NOVA Chemicals during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak

(UPDATED APRIL 15, 2020) NOVA Chemicals continues to closely monitor global, national and local developments related to COVID-19. A pandemic advisory team, which includes senior site, business and functional leaders, is meeting daily to ensure business continuity.

To further protect the safety and well-being of our employees, contractors, communities and customers, help stop the spread of COVID-19 more broadly, and maintain business continuity, we have implemented some expanded company guidelines:

Our customer service, sales and technical service teams are working diligently from home to ensure customers receive the same exceptional experience as always from us. We’ll continue to work through all available technologies until we are able to resume in-person engagement.

Operations at NOVA Chemicals through the COVID-19 Outbreak

Our manufacturing sites remain operational and there are currently no impacts to our supply chain or ability to deliver products timely. The US/Canada border has closed to “non-essential” traffic, but we do not anticipate any issues as trade is considered essential and supply chains between the two countries remain open.

In keeping with Ontario government directives for significant industrial petrochemical projects and our company’s foundational principles and core values, NOVA Chemicals has taken significant steps to maintain the health and safety of our employees, contractors and community. We are safely and steadily progressing construction activities on our second Advanced SCLAIRTECH™ technology facility (AST2) and Corunna cracker expansion projects and maintaining our compliance with public health guidelines and governmental directives.

Commissioning and construction activities on our furnace refurbishment project in Alberta have been paused. Commissioning work will resume once we feel confident that the risk of exposure has diminished. At this time, it is too early to say when construction will commence. We will continue to monitor the situation and make decisions based upon business conditions.

The health and safety of our employees, contractors and community remains a top priority for NOVA Chemicals as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. The decisions we’ve made to pause construction activity allow us to keep worker safety and well-being at the forefront while continuing to progress our business-critical construction projects.
