Byron C. Romain is the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, responsible for leading all of NOVA Chemicals’ legal operations, management of joint ventures, information governance and ethics and compliance, as well as overseeing company risk by aligning with the evolving needs of the organization.

Romain joined NOVA Chemicals in 2020. His extensive experience in both private practice and in-house have helped him become an expert in the acquisition, disposition, development, governance, and financing (both debt and equity) of energy assets and projects, including in the areas of climate care, circularity, and sustainability.

Prior to joining NOVA Chemicals, Romain was a partner at White & Case LLP.  Prior to that, he served as Head of North American Oil and Gas Acquisition & Divestitures at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP. He also worked with Marathon Oil where he led acquisitions and divestitures. He has served his clients throughout the world, including in the Middle East, former Soviet Union, and Southeast Asia.

Romain earned a Juris Doctor and Master of Arts from Fordham University and a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas. He serves on the Board of Directors of Ames Girls Softball Association.
