Arnel Santos joined NOVA Chemicals in 2016 as the Senior Vice President, Operations, responsible for overseeing Manufacturing, Projects & Engineering, Procurement & Logistics, Responsible Care and Ventures.
Prior to joining NOVA Chemicals, Santos served as Regional Vice President, Manufacturing, Asia, at Shell Eastern Petroleum Limited. His career with Shell started in 1991 as a Process Engineer at Shell’s Tabangao Refinery, then moving to various leadership roles in Operations, Economics, and Scheduling, including New Refinery commissioning and start-up. Later, he worked on Distillation and Separations, including Oilsands Processing with Shell Global Solutions in Amsterdam. From there, Santos moved to the Pulau Bukom Refinery, where he contributed in both Technology and Operations, before returning to Shell Global Solutions to lead the Distillation, Thermal Conversion, and Light Ends Technology Delivery Group. He became General Manager of the Tabangao Refinery in 2009.
In 2012, Santos assumed the role of General Manager for the Scotford Upgrader in Upstream Americas’ Heavy Oil business, located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In 2013, he was appointed Regional Vice President, Manufacturing, Asia, based in Singapore.
His years of experience in Refinery Technology and Operations has helped him become an expert in Process Design & Engineering, Operations, Technology Development, Change Leadership, and People Development. Santos earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from University of the Philippines. He previously served on several Boards of Directors in the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
