We recognize the value in post-use plastics and work to extend the lifecycle of plastics products and packaging. NOVA has set an industry-leading standard for driving the transition to a circular economy for plastics, aspiring to reach 30 per cent of our polyethylene sales¹ be from recycled content by. We also continue to support industry commitments of enabling 100 per cent of plastics packaging being recyclable or recoverable by 2030 and 100 per cent of plastic packaging being re-used, recycled, or recovered by 2040.

In addition to launching our new SYNDIGO™ recycled polyethylene portfolio of products, we actively work with our customers to help them design and develop products and packaging to promote a plastics circular economy, utilize recyclable film structures and post-consumer resin (PCR) materials, and maximize source reduction. Working together with others, we strive to create a world free of plastic pollution.

Being a catalyst for a low-carbon, zero-plastic-waste future

Together with leading the transition to the circular economy, NOVA Chemicals aspires to be at the forefront of industry decarbonization and the pathway to net-zero² by 2050 by ambitiously reducing our Scope 1 and 2 absolute CO₂ emissions by 30 per cent by 2030³. We have developed a technical solutions-focused roadmap for decarbonizing our asset base by improving energy efficiencies, electrifying and acquiring renewable power, exploring clean hydrogen as a low carbon fuel source, and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS).

We are committed to promoting and maintaining sustainability in our operations. We proactively and responsibly manage the water, land, and air involved in our operations facilities.

We have voluntarily reported our performance since 1994 through the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) and have continued this practice through our annual ESG Report since 2015.

Plastic waste does not belong in the environment. As a responsible corporate citizen, NOVA Chemicals invests and participates in projects with global reach that strengthen our positive impact on promoting natural resource conservation and ocean health. We are a founding member of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW), lead sponsor of the Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup and a founding investor in the Closed Loop Circular Plastics Fund. Our employee volunteers have been participating in the Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up for more than a decade.

We believe that plastic waste pollution is a solvable issue and that collaboration across industries, along the value chain, and amongst governments and NGOs is the key to creating a zero-plastic-waste future. Another critical element in achieving this goal is fostering an agile, high-performing team of employees who feel they belong, are engaged, and represent the communities in which we work and live. We are committed to building an inclusive and equitable culture and achieving diverse representation across our workforce to ensure that all NOVA employees can reach their full potential.
