NOVACAT™ CATALYSTS

NOVACAT™ catalysts are a series of proprietary advanced Ziegler-Natta (Z-N) catalysts developed by NOVA Chemicals and Innovene (formerly BP Petrochemical) for gas-phase polymerization processes. These catalysts have been in commercial operation since 2001, delivering significant process and product advantages, and are available for license.

NOVACAT catalysts are capable of producing the full range of Z-N PE resins - butene and hexene LLDPE copolymers as well as HDPE - with significant advantages over other commercially available PE products. In addition, the catalysts are capable of producing superior hexene copolymers, having high dart impact properties, at economics comparable to general-purpose hexene copolymers.

NOVACAT catalysts also facilitate considerable production rate improvements for LLDPE resins. These rate improvements are fundamentally linked to the improved polymer composition provided by the catalysts.

Advantages of polymers made using NOVACAT catalysts
  • Improved butene and hexene polymer properties
  • Superior high dart impact hexene resins
  • Improved film opticals and decreased hexane extractables
  • Excellent particle morphology
  • Process advantages provided by using NOVACAT catalysts
  • "Drop-in" capability - no capital expenditure
  • Improved production rates and expanded operating envelope
  • Decreased particle stickiness - better particulate flowability
  • Excellent catalyst activity
  • Excellent process response and control
  • Easy transitions to/from other Z-N catalysts
  • NOVACAT catalyst technologies are designed to be "drop-in" catalysts for most gas-phase operations, can be readily and quickly implemented, and are available for license.
