Product Stewardship

Promoting Product Stewardship

NOVA Chemicals encourages the adoption of Responsible Care® principles through our Responsible Care Outreach Program. This program engages customers, suppliers, carriers and other stakeholders and helps them understand our commitment to Responsible Care and our expectations for doing business with NOVA Chemicals.

We also  encourage environmentally and economically sustainable plastics recovery and recycling programs. NOVA Chemicals participates in many trade organizations that sponsor plastics recycling research and integrated waste reduction strategies. We are a primary funding member of the Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA) and active in the American Chemistry Council, the EPS Industry Alliance, and the Alberta Plastics Recycling Association (APRA). In addition to these efforts:

• NOVA Chemicals is a partner in Operation Cleansweep,  an initiative that seeks to prevent the release of resin pellets into the environment. Operation Cleansweep combines fundamental product stewardship and environmental principles.
• We have conducted and participate in lifecycle assessments of our polymer products
• We have developed product-based websites that provide technical data, product application data and safe handling information in response to our customers’ requests for factual, accessible data for NOVA Chemicals' products. To learn more, please visit the Markets and Applications section of our website.
