MONTRÉAL SITE
Montréal, Quebec, Canada
Located in the east end of Montréal, Québec, Canada, NOVA Chemicals' Montréal plant site produces various grades of high-impact polystyrene.
The polystyrene produced in Montréal is shipped to various customers - 95% is transported via hopper cars and bulk truck, while the remaining 5% is shipped in boxes and bags. Our customers use these high-impact polystyrene pellets to manufacture end products for consumers such as toys, cosmetics, cups, plates and utensils.
Montréal, Quebec, Canada
The site began operations in 1980. NOVA Chemicals purchased the facility in 1988, and the site underwent expansions in 1989 and 1997. Capacity expansion in 1997 allowed an increase in manufacturing capacity from 106 million pounds (48 kilotonnes) per year to a rated capacity of 130 million pounds per year (59 kilotonnes).
Production
Liquid styrene, the primary feedstock used for polystyrene, is received via tank cars. Other raw materials such as mineral oil, rubber and various additives are used to produce different grades of high-impact polystyrene in pellet form. Current production is approximately 130 million pounds (59 kilotonnes) and utilizes NOVA Chemicals' proprietary product and process technology.
End Products
Approximately 40 employees work at the Montréal site.
The facility is ISO 9001:2000 registered.
