New
Automotive Applications
NOVA Chemicals’ DYLARK is a preferred resin for soft-feel instrument
panel assemblies. In addition, NOVA Chemicals’ engineering team
continues to develop new applications and penetrate automotive segments
including, audio components, consoles, center stacks, radio buckets, blower
wheels, and video monitor supports and a variety of structural bracketry.
DYLARK resins are also a cost-effective alternative for applications such
as, seat backs, load floors, door panels and air bag modules. Structural
applications include integrated defroster ducts, bezels and carriers.
NOVA Chemicals, in cooperation with a Tier 1 automotive supplier, successfully
developed and tested an injection molded, DYLARK glass reinforced cross-car
beam. The DYLARK cross-car beam enables the inclusion of an air distribution
system, passenger-side airbag and placement support for console controls.
The structural support is a replacement for steel and provides a reduction
in overall weight and assembly costs. The DYLARK cross-car beam is validated
for performance and front and side barrier crash tests.
The combination of the DYLARK cross-car beam system and instrument panel
substrate creates an entirely recyclable interior system. These components
can be removed at the end of the vehicle life cycle and re-used to manufacture
similar specification parts. The recyclabilty of DYLARK complies with
the end of vehicle life cycle proposals in Europe.
